A team from Civil Service Local south west 2013 Academy are delivering a pilot project for grades AA to SEO who want to develop and apply new skills through flexible work placements in the private or voluntary sector.
By linking up with Plymouth Chamber of Commerce’s Public2Private scheme, Anthony Waters of HMRC Plymouth was placed with Knight Scientific Ltd, a biotech company developing unique products, based on light detection, with applications as diverse as measuring over training in elite athletes to diagnosing sexually transmitted infections. During his placement, Anthony helped set up new data analysis procedures and also worked on a social media project.
Working at Knight Scientific was a really great experience, They taught me a lot about contracts, project work and networking, and I could help them with my knowledge of databases.
Dr Jan Knight, managing director of Knight Scientific, said
“I was very pleased with the work Anthony did for us, and this should encourage other people in the public sector that they have skills which are transferable to many other workplace situations.”
