To celebrate Volunteer Week this year 1 June to 7 June 2015, I would like to give you some information about the benefits of volunteering for The Charity for Civil Servants.
The Charity for Civil Servants supports all civil servants, past and present, throughout their lives, with whatever problems they may have. Our amazing volunteers donate their time to help us in many different ways – without their support we wouldn't be the charity we are.
Becoming a volunteer can be great fun as well as giving you new challenges. It's an opportunity to build new skills and experiences, meet new people, whilst making a difference to those around you.
If you volunteer for the Charity, we try our best to balance your work commitments with our volunteer training by using teleconference, Skype and email tools. We also know that a face-to-face course is hard to beat and on occasions, your volunteering role may require you to attend within working hours.
Although all senior civil servants are encouraged to allow staff to take at least one day off a year to volunteer, the amount of time spent would be at your line manager's discretion and your own department's policy on agreed volunteering days. Don't forget, volunteering may be used as part of your five a year learning and development days and the Charity is keen that Managers are aware of the learning and development opportunities it offers volunteers, so that these can form part of your end of year reviews
If you need further support from the Charity in your volunteering role, let us know and we will see what we can do to help. You can contact me on 020 8240 2459 and I can provide anything you or your Manager may need.
Alternatively, if you want to have a chat about volunteering in general, have any questions, or need more information, you can contact the Charity’s Volunteer Support Team by email or phone 020 8240 2441 or 020 8240 2403 or visit our website.
