With a clear link between organisational performance and investment in management and leadership development, the Level 5 Leadership and Management Apprenticeship presents a fantastic learning opportunity.
It enables our first line, middle and senior managers to fulfil their potential in the role whilst working towards a university level qualification. By offering a more flexible approach to traditional studying methods, learning takes place through workplace assessments and involves carrying out tasks and projects. The apprenticeship is enhanced by workshops and tutorials to build knowledge and capability. These sessions are also unique opportunities to develop cross government and external networks.
With support and help from the National Apprenticeship Service to set this up and by working in partnership with our external providers, Joint Learning, we have successfully negotiated an exclusive offer for our workforce to enrol and complete this course with a formal qualification at the end.
So far, 166 middle and senior managers have qualified or are studying towards this goal. Feedback from successful apprentices demonstrates that:
100% have strengthened their competencies
98% have built on their networking across departments and with public sector colleagues
93% have gained knowledge and feel confident enough to take on extra roles
These roles include project management, implementing new products and services, taking on extra team members, building their manager role and working with The Prince's Trust. We recently held an event to celebrate the achievements of current and former apprentices.
‘It was a fantastic opportunity to come and recognise the success and achievements of those who have completed their Higher Apprenticeship with Civil Service Local. It’s always inspiring to hear the stories of those who have completed their learning and benefited from the increased confidence and opportunities that the Apprenticeships bring! I hope that all those participating continue their learning and continue to champion Apprenticeships as an excellent way of progressing their careers both in and outside of the Civil Service.’
