Suzanne Middlemiss of DWP recently attended a speed mentoring event in Nottingham.
" I attended the speed mentoring event because I wanted to take the opportunity to meet fellow civil servants from the various departments and grades. I wanted to get an insight into others roles, how they had progressed into their respective grades and how best to build my capabilities to progress within the Civil Service.
I felt nervous before the event but there was really no need - everybody was very welcoming, friendly and very keen to understand my current role, what I wanted to achieve and the skills I have at present.
Talking with mentors helped me understand more in my own mind what I actually want to achieve and do in my career - talking it through really helped!
I would definitely recommended speed mentoring to others and I'm very keen to attend more Civil Service local events".
The event was such a success we will be looking to run another session in the future.
