Funded by the Greater Cambridge Greater Peterborough Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and delivered by Opportunity Peterborough, the Peterborough Skills Service responds to local business needs, co-ordinating activities between businesses and schools, and other organisations with access to young people, in order to raise aspirations and increase awareness of local career opportunities.
The Skills Service are currently looking for volunteers to help support their latest schools initiatives. The first of these is a Mock Apprenticeship Interview at Ken Stimpson Community School, Werrington on Tuesday 2 December, 2.30-4.30pm (as an added incentive to volunteer, pizza will be provided!). There will be a group of approximately 20 students from Year 11 and Post 16, and each volunteer will informally 'interview' approximately 6 students and offer advice on applications, interview techniques and CVs. Some experience of recruitment/interviewing would be preferred or perhaps a knowledge of apprenticeships, and the school is especially keen to identify individuals with business/IT experience.
The second event is 'Meet the Professional', also at Ken Stimpson Community School, Werrington on Wednesday 3 December, 09:30 - 10:15am. The Skills Service is seeking a volunteer to talk to a group of 15-20 students about their job, their career path taken, and to include information on the roles and opportunities that exist within the Civil Service. Interaction with the students is encouraged, for example a question & answer session, quiz or activity.
