The Primary Reading Scheme has enabled young people (aged 4-6) to read aloud to Civil Service volunteers over weekly sessions and for Nursery stage learners (aged 3-4) to hear stories read to them.
Following the success of the pilot, we extended the scheme to a further 4 schools involved in the Ouseburn Learning Trust. These schools include Chillingham Road Primary School, Hotspur Primary School, Ravenswood Primary School and Cragside Primary School. Previous volunteers have thoroughly enjoyed mentoring pupils through the Reading Scheme and you can read about their experiences here.
We currently have places available at Benton Park Primary, Ravenswood Primary, Chillingham Road Primary School. As the places available at each school are limited, they will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
