Volunteering in County Durham

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: North East, Yorkshire and the Humber

We Durham EBPare looking for volunteers to work with Durham Education Business Partnership at a number of career fairs throughout County Durham.

Careers fairs are events that are highly valued by schools as they are an excellent way to raise young people’s awareness of different occupations in both the private and public sector.

The aim is to inform pupils about the variety of career opportunities available to them by showing examples of what will be expected of someone in a particular job and what qualifications are required.

We currently have these dates and locations available and the events usually take place in the school hall. Volunteers are asked to give a short presentation which includes an overview of their organisation and the types of careers available. Wherever possible it is recommended that volunteers bring along any equipment or materials used in the workplace which will allow the pupils to participate in an interactive task. For example former events have had pupils building a brick wall, making smoothies, completing team tasks and quizzes.

These are excellent opportunities for you to enhance your communication and presentation skills to an enthusiastic yet sometimes challenging audience. This will also allow you to connect with schools in your local community and help to make a difference.  And as an additional bonus all of these opportunities will go towards your 5 a year learning and development target.

To express an interest please contact Anna Bradley with your preference. If you have any questions please contact Ann White.
