The Walking Challenge is over

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: A National Spotlight

NewBanner2-11-11Another Walking Challenge comes to an end, with over 1,700 participants and 51 government departments and agencies taking part to support The Charity for Civil Servants!

Collectively everyone walked an incredible 356,400 miles (over 14 times around the Earth) and over 34,000 miles further than last year!

Comments by some of this year’s walkers include:

I can't believe the 50 days are up. I've really enjoyed lunchtime walks around the park with my colleagues, walking the dog in the evenings and even walking into town to meet my daughter after work.

The great thing about this [Walking Challenge] Facebook page is I keep seeing places I want to go and visit! Thanks for sharing!

I feel healthier than I ever have, and I've grown to love and look forward to my walks. I'm still overweight and unfit, so an average of 10,000 a day is still a real challenge for me.

It's very hard [to do 10,000 steps a day] if you have an illness or a disability, or even just a lifetime of inactivity like me. It's all about upping your average. Every extra step you take is better for your health than if you had just sat down in front of the telly. We are all striding forward in our own way.
