The WESC Foundation is a specialist centre for visual impairment based in Exeter. The foundation provides a safe learning environment for young people and adults with visual impairments including complex needs.

As part of an exciting new project the charity has taken on an 8-acre plot of land near Ottery St.Mary. In the past year they’ve worked hard to clear vegetation, create a sensory garden and establish classroom facilities. However, more work is needed to make the site fully accessible for visually impaired students and wheelchair users.

Civil Service Local has arranged a volunteering day with WESC to help further develop the site. We’ll be undertaking a range of conservation, groundwork and land management activities to suit all abilities. You can find out more about the project at the WESC West Hill blog.

The volunteer day will take place:

Thursday 29 November 2018

West Hill site (2 miles from Ottery St. Mary) 10:00am – 3:30pm

Ample car parking is available and there are also toilet facilities on site. Tea and coffee will be available, but you will need to bring a packed lunch and drinking water, as the water at the site is only drinkable if boiled.

To register and for directions, please email Nick Frampton

This event is suitable for all grades. The site can be muddy so you will need stout shoes, walking boots or wellington boots and should wear warm, waterproof clothing. All tools will be provided.

Please note that you will need to seek approval from your line manager to take part in this volunteering and any travel and subsistence costs must be met by your department.

Civil Service Local are committed to ensuring that wherever possible our events are accessible to all participants. If you have any specific requirements that will enable you to fully participate, please let us know and we will endeavour to make any reasonable adjustments.
