Come and discover the work of the Youth Justice Board

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: A National Spotlight

Civil Service Local invites you to participate in an interactive online event hosted by speakers from the Youth Justice Board.  The event will be hosted live online on Tuesday 11 May at 10.30am where speakers from the organisation will give a background to the agency, an insight to their roles, and share ways that you can get involved with the vast and exciting volunteering opportunities they have on offer.

What is the Youth Justice Board?

Formed in 1998 the YJB and is a non-departmental public body created by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to oversee the youth justice system for England and Wales. Its primary function is to monitor the operation of the youth justice system and the provision of youth justice services within England and Wales.

Why join our event?

The focus of this event is to promote the work within the YJB, provide a background to the organisation, an understanding of the roles undertaken, details for those who wish to get involved through volunteering opportunities, and so much more.  It will be relevant to civil servants from England and Wales. The event will include the following:

  • an overview of the YJB’s role
  • an overview of community panels/mentoring
  • an insight from a panel member from Youth Offending Services talking about their role
  • a personal story from a child talking about their experience of being on a panel
  • questions and answers

What opportunities are there in youth justice?

Effective youth justice services require the involvement of their local community, so there are various volunteering opportunities within the youth justice system, some of these include volunteering as a:

  • mentor
  • youth offender panel member
  • appropriate adult

You will have the chance to raise questions and to register your interest in any of the above roles.
