Dementia Action Week is a national event that sees the UK public taking action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. In 2021, the week will take place on 17 – 23 May. Join us throughout the week to hear from speakers on how people living with Dementia and our carers are affected.

Did you know there are estimated to be over 670,000 people in the UK acting as primary, unpaid carers for people with dementia. By 2030 the cost of skills and experience lost from the workforce due to dementia will rise from £628 million to £1.16 billion.

Become a Dementia Friend
Join us for a free online Dementia Friends information session, led by Mike Downey, Dementia Champion and Director at JCP Solicitors. You will learn about identifying dementia, trying to make things easier for people living with dementia, and how to help them. At the end of the session you can call yourself an 'Alzheimer's Society Dementia Friend’.
The information session will be followed by a talk on Lasting Powers of Attorney and Wills by Cherrie Powell, Legal Advisor, JCP Solicitors where you will have access to an expert in this area of the law to ask any questions you may have.

Carers Awareness session
This session will be hosted by The Charity of Civil Servants who have been working to connect and educate carers on appropriate services available to them.
David Jones and Lisa Colville both work within the Caring and Wellbeing team at The Charity for Civil Servants. Before coming to The Charity, David’s background was in social services where he was regularly involved in completing Carers Assessments and working with carers to connect them to a range of appropriate services and supports. Lisa has worked with The Charity for 13 years both in delivering information sessions to wide audiences and working one-to-one with clients on caring and wellbeing issues. The Charity’s services are available to all current, ex and retired civil servants as well as their dependents.
Join this session to learn more about the following:
- what is The Charity for Civil Servants
- how do we define a carer and what are some of the challenges they face
- what workplace and external services are available to carers
- what carer services are available from The Charity
- what wellbeing support is available for carers
- what financial support is available for carers

This is great, but how about funding a course on dementia prevention (slowing down the effects of the disease) by cognitive reserves?
