Discovery Sessions are a series of interactive talks and learning events, each lasting a couple of hours. Colleagues have the opportunity to hear about cross-departmental subjects and issues that affect all of us as Civil Servants. A list of the next sessions to be held in the north west of England is included below
How do the Discovery Sessions work?
We invite people from a range of Civil Service departments and agencies, irrespective of their grade to attend one-off interactive learning sessions, which develop the strategic awareness and expertise of staff through presentations from senior leaders across the public sector.
Some of our recent topics have included:
- The Civil Service Competency Framework
- What does Civil Service Reform mean to you?
- Digital by Default
- Parliamentary Outreach – the work of Parliament and how this directly affects all our roles.
We have had great feedback from attendees and speakers alike.
I feel motivated to go back to the office and make a real difference through

I don’t always have time to go off on training so this was ideal. It was local
to me and it’s amazing how much you can pick up in just a couple of hours.
