Volunteer at a local primary school

Posted by: and , Posted on: - Categories: East, South East & London

Actors are famously told never to work with children. However, those of us that have are aware of how incredibly rewarding it can be.

You may already be aware of our highly-regarded programmes to help prepare young people in secondary schools for the future world of work.  We are now offering you the fantastic opportunity to help support children in your local primary schools.

What would you be doing? The aim of the programme is still to help children learn more about the world of work, but the focus for primary school projects is promoting a positive view of work generally through the delivery of motivational talks. You will typically talk about your own job, explaining what you do and how it benefits both yourself and others - in a fun way that will get the children thinking about what they would like to do when they grow up. These messages, we hope, will stay with the children through to working age.

Feedback from those already involved in the programme has been extremely positive. For example, from one school – ‘the children enjoyed the fact that the talk was personal to the presenter and based on her own experience.’

Participation in these programmes is open to all civil servants, subject to approval by their departments.

If you are seeking an opportunity that is both challenging and highly rewarding, that will significantly develop your skills and confidence and, most importantly, make a difference to the lives of young people in your community, then apply today by contacting Ian Barton
