Discover Digital by Default in Newcastle

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: North East, Yorkshire and the Humber

opg logoWould you like to hear more about the practicalities of going digital?

Join us for our discovery session where a member of the Government Digital Service will give an overview of their work and explain the background to the digital agenda. This will be followed by a presentation from staff in the Office of the Public Guardian, who are working closely with the Government Digital Service to develop its on-line services and are seen as one of the front runners in making this happen. They will speak about the practicalities of going digital and the challenges it brings. An interactive session will follow where you can put your digital skills to the test!

This session is quite technical, so will probably be of most use to those of you working closely with the digital agenda.

Where: conference room BP 2313, Benton Park View, Newcastle.

When: Friday 24 April 2015

Time: 10:00am to 12:30pm or 1:30pm to 4:00pm

Travel expenses need to be met by your home department and you must have your managers permission to attend.

Places are available on a first come, first served basis so if you would like to reserve a place please email Anna Bradley and indicate whether you prefer a morning or an afternoon session (or can attend either).

Do you know whether there are any plans to run this session in Scotland? How could we request this?

Eileen, thanks for your question. Civil Service Local do not currently operate in Scotland although we are aware of fledgling Civil Service Learning Networks. We are also aware of discussions that are happening within the Scotland Office about an offering similar to ours. Leo Castledine the Head of Civil Service Local is speaking to contacts within the Scotland Office and if there is any progress we will update this website.

GDS are limited to being able to run these sessions only a few times each year although I am sure they would be interested in a session in Scotland and I will pass on your request to them.

Civil Service Local do not have a budget for accomodation charges and rely on the goodwill of Civil Service Departments to provide free premises for our events. It would help greatly if you could identify for us a location where such events could possibly be held if we were able to arrange them. In the meantime, and I appreciate the distances involved, you are welcome to attend any Discovery Sessions advertised in the north east of England.

hope to have a more positive reply soon.
