Volunteer with Brandon Trust

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Zzz archive

Volunteering may be a way to help you in developing your skills, an opportunity to demonstrate existing skills ready for a new job, or more generally a great way to give back to the community and impart your skills. The Brandon Trust currently have opportunities for you in London.

Brandon Trust is a charity that supports over 1400 young people and adults with learning disabilities and autism across the south of England, including Bristol, Gloucestershire, Cornwall and London.Brandon Logo

They provide a wide-range of person-centred support - including support in the home; employment training; and work, leisure and learning services. The aim is to give everyone with a learning disability the chance to be the person they want to be and to live the life they want to live.

The support of volunteers is vital to this work, helping to enhance spaces and create opportunities that would not otherwise be possible.

Current Opportunity: They are looking for your help in painting and decorating two large, shared houses, occupied by people with a learning disability. They want to improve the quality of life of the people they support by brightening up the bedrooms and communal spaces in their home, and need a volunteer team to turn their ideas into reality. The work is to paint 4 bedrooms and a hallway in the house ‘Ferncroft’, and 4 bedrooms plus a kitchen in ‘Heathercroft'.

Details: They are looking for 12 volunteers to complete this task. We estimate it would take 1 ½ days in total. This can be undertaken as a team or on an individual basis.

Skills required: No special skills or experience are required – full instruction will be given on the day. Qualified Support Workers will be on hand to supervise. Brandon Trust will supply all necessary paint, brushes, rollers, tape etc.

Location: Ferncroft and Heathercroft Lodges, 41 and 43 Old Lodge Lane, Purley, Croydon, Surrey CR8 4DL. Nearest station: Reedham (National Rail), then Purley or Coulsdon Town.

Thank you for your email. I'm not sure from your details whether you are a member of the Civil Service? This volunteering opportunity is aimed at groups of civil servants, but if you are not and are still interested, then you can contact the Brandon Trust directly via the link to their web pages http://www.brandontrust.org/ and I am sure they would welcome your interest. I'm not aware that there is any certification for participating in this opportunity.
