Make a difference with the Doorstep Library

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: East, South East & London

After the success of the first Pimlico project launched in March 2017, Doorstep Library are setting up another brand new project in the area in October 2017.

Doorstep Library organise teams of volunteers to visit children at home on council estates with backpacks full of books. They read stories, lend books for the week, provide a listening ear for parents and encourage families to get out and about in their local community. In short, volunteers make a big impact on the families they visit for just a small weekly effort.

Rachel, pictured with Omor, who has been volunteering with the charity for 10 years now, says "I always feel better for spending a few hours reading. So much better than if I had stayed at work!" When Omor’s teacher complimented her on her vocabulary, Omor credited the wide selection of books that Doorstep Library volunteers bring for her each week.

Are you passionate about books/literacy/equal opportunities/social justice and looking for a way to give back directly to your local community? This could be the project for you.

You can discover more about their work by watching this short video.
