Back to school to inspire the next generation

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: East, South East & London

Could you make a difference to a young person’s life? Can you spare a couple of hours a week for approximately 6 weeks to help secondary school students, often in danger of dropping out of the system? If so we want you.

Inspiring Young People: Engaging our Schools - is part of a CS Local national programme offering you the opportunity to work with school students. Typically you’ll be working with a team of 6 or 7 cross-departmental civil servants to prepare and deliver engaging activities to help the students understand the benefits of working, recognise and develop their employability skills and provide help with CV writing and interview techniques.

Read about Villiers High School in Southall to see an example from last year.

During the project you build a rapport with the students and have the reward of seeing them develop over the weeks. You’ll benefit from working with colleagues from other government departments and developing a range of skills while the students will learn from your experience and skills.

How you can get involved: We are currently looking for Project Managers (PM) and team members to deliver the programme. (PM’s will receive an induction so please keep 14 December 2017 free in your diary). Please read about the role which includes the outline, benefits and time commitment and discuss with your line manager to ensure that they are fully supportive

If you are interested please get in touch stating your preference of PM or team role and which school, your grade and describe (max 250 words) how this opportunity will benefit you and your department and what you will contribute to the success of this project by 12 December 2017*.

The following school projects are expected to run early next year at a mutually agreed time. The School options are:

  • Regent High School - Camden
  • Park High – Stanmore (N/W London)
  • Villiers High School – Southall (West London)
  • Featherstone High School – Southall
  • Guru Nanak Sikh Academy – Hayes (near Southall)
  • Slough and Eton Church of England – Slough
  • Priory School - Hitchin

There will be other opportunities in East London areas too.

Please contact us if you would like to get involved with these or any future opportunities.

Volunteering can make a real difference to the lives around you, whilst adding something great to your life and of course your CV!

*Sending an EOI signifies you have read the role, agree to the principles of the programme and have line manager approval.
