Changing Horizons is here!

What is Changing Horizons?

The Civil Service, as one of its largest employers and in its role of supporting the Government, is important in unlocking the aspirations and skills of our country’s young people.

Our Changing Horizons events in Blackpool and Oldham will help to do this by bringing together hundreds of young people in areas of low social mobility with employers, colleges, Civil Service departments and the voluntary sector.

The events are set up to be fast-paced and engaging for young people. They encourage them to move out of their ‘comfort zone’ and contemplate career paths that they wouldn’t otherwise consider.

What will I get from taking part?
Changing Horizons is also a chance to develop your own skills, widen your contacts and work with others both in the local community and in other parts of government.

Can I still volunteer for the Oldham event?

There’s still time to volunteer for one of the wide range of roles for our Oldham event on 14 March.

If you are interested in volunteering in Oldham, please contact Karen Mee or Andrea May providing the following information:

  • The name of the department you work for;
  • Any roles that you would prefer (please note that we cannot guarantee preferences);
  • Whether you have first aid training;
  • Any accessibility issues you may have;
  • and if you were involved in any of the 2018 Changing Horizons events

All volunteers will need to get their manager’s agreement to take part with any travel expenses being covered by their home department. They will also need to be available to attend a briefing session around three weeks before the event.
